Throughout his musical life, Elwin regularly picks up songwriting and then puts it away. He even ended up with his cover band Choice, because he wanted to play some of his own songs with a band. During performances, the repertoire was supplemented with many covers, which turned out to do much better with the audience, after which the own songs disappeared again.
In 2021, during the COVID-19 lockdown, Elwin signed up for the Songwriter School, which offers online courses. He has further developed there and also a good click with a co-writer, Joep van Leeuwen , was found.
